SU 10693 is also labelled the type and was cited as such by Böhlke 1953:79 [ref. 12291]; the original description does not rule out more than one specimen; if more than 1 then Böhlke established a lectotype. •Valid as Calamus leucosteus Jordan & Gilbert 1885 -- (Randall & Caldwell 1966:22 [ref. 9053], with CAS 23508 as type, Robins & Ray 1986:183 [ref. 23100], Boschung 1992:141 [ref. 23239], Castro-Aguirre et al. 1999:348 [ref. 24550], Carpenter 2003:1566 [ref. 27092], Nelson et al. 2004:146 [ref. 27807], McEachran & Fechhelm 2005:395 [ref. 28815], Page et al. 2013:150 [ref. 32708], Parenti 2019:75 [ref. 36892], Martínez-Servín et al. 2023:117 [ref. 40726]). Current status: Valid as Calamus leucosteus Jordan & Gilbert 1885. Sparidae. Distribution: Western Atlantic: North Carolina south to Florida (U.S.A.); Gulf of Mexico and northwestern Caribbean Sea.
